How to care for your product

Because they are handmade with mostly natural fabrics, many products from Two Dreams by JM are dry clean only however there are some items which can be hand washed. Most items have been made with Linen, Dupioni Silk, Cotton, and Polyester, and some of these fabrics needs special care. For instance, since linen is made from the fibers of the flax plant, it is considered a natural fabric. Dupioni Silk is a handwoven silk that is traditionally dyed with a variety of vegetables-based dyes. It is very important to check labels or tags on the products to determine the method of care that the item requires. Rest assured that each of our products has been carefully labeled with a tag containing care information and instructions.

Each fabric has different method of washing and drying, such as hand wash, machine wash, tumble dry, or flat dry. Linen absorbs more water during the washing process than others fabrics. Dupioni Silk is about the only silk fabric construction requiring dry cleaning since washing this silk fabric change its texture and sheen. Cotton is another fabric that can shrink so it is better to wash it in cold water, on in a slow and delicate cycle. Air dry is best to avoid the maximum shrinkage in the first wash.

When washing linen products, always wash your linen products on your machine’s gentle cycle. If it is possible to select the water level in the washing machine, always use the maximum offered, your items should move freely within the tub. Linen has to be washed in lukewarm water never cold or hot.

If you hand wash linen, only use a gentle swishing motion. Never wring, twist or scrub the fabric. Hand washing is recommended for clothes that is not heavily soiled, or for linen fabric with a loose weave, which might be damaged during a wash in a washing machine. Always try to dry your linen clothes flat. Hangers or clothespins can cause marks on the fabric and also cause deformation of the product

Always hand wash Dupioni Silk. Silk can be washed with cold or lukewarm water. Use mild baby shampoo, ensure it is fully dissolved in water then place the Dupioni Silk into the water rubbing the fabric lightly. Do not soak silk in water more than 5 minutes. Fill a container with lukewarm water adding a spoon of vinegar to rinse the silk to make sure that all the soap is washed off. Vinegar neutralizes the soap. Lay the fabric flat on a towel. Roll the towel loosely into a cinnamon-roll shape, and then set the towel and silk aside. Allow the material to dry overnight. As always, never hesitate to email me directly about your purchase.
